「スティルウォーター」の罠！？ロンドンのレストランで学んだ“お水事情”😂💸

イギリス旅行で、またひとつ勉強になったことがあります…。

それは

レストランでのお水の頼み方！！！！！

海外のレストランでよく聞かれる、

“Sparkling or still?”

私はですね、日本の感覚で、

「炭酸水にしますか？普通のお水にしますか？」

って聞かれてるんだと思ったんですよ。

なので、何の迷いもなく、

“Still water, please.”

と答えました。

…はい。

ここから悲劇が始まります🤣

🌟「スティルウォーター」が、まさかの高級ミネラルウォーターだった件

ちゃんと意味を確認すればよかったんです。

でもその時の私は、

「まさか有料のミネラルウォーターだなんて…」

これっぽっちも思ってなかったんですよね😭

すると運ばれてきたのが、

めちゃくちゃ立派なボトル！！！

「え！？コップ一杯じゃなくて、ボトル！？」

と内心びっくりしつつも、

まあ普通に飲んで、普通に食事を楽しみました。

🌟最終日のフィッシュ＆チップスで発覚🍟🐟

旅の最終日。

友人たちと過ごした楽しい時間を思い出しながら、宿泊していた シェラトンのレストランで、ひとりフィッシュ＆チップスを堪能していました✨

お値段、なんと19ポンド。

いや、十分高いですよ！？😂

日本円にすると、3,000〜4,000円くらい。

それでも「シェラトンだしね…」と自分を納得させていたんですが

お会計を見てびっくり。

26ポンド超えてる。

「え？？？」

「サービス料入ってても高くない？？？」

と思い、お店の方に、

「クレームじゃなくて、内訳を知りたいだけなんですけど…」

と聞いてみたところ、説明されました。

犯人は“Still Water”でした😂

はい。

私が頼んでいた “Still Water”。

これ、ただの「普通の水」ではなく、

有料のミネラルウォーター だったんです🤣

しかも、お値段

4ポンド50。

日本円で、ほぼ1000円😇

お水に1000円…！！！

会計で初めて気づきました（笑）

実は、伏線はあったんです…

食事中、隣のイギリス人夫婦が店員さんに、

“Just tap water, please.”

って言ってたんですよ。

その時ちょっとだけ、

「あれ？私はタップウォーターって言ってないな…？」

とは思ったんです。

もちろん “tap water” が水道水って意味なのは知っていました。

しかもイギリスって、水質基準が厳しくて、水道水が飲める国なんですよね。

実際、移動中は普通に水道水を飲んでいました。

でもその時は、

「スティルウォーターって何だったんだろう？」

くらいにしか思ってなくて😂

まさか自分のテーブルに、約1000円のミネラルウォーターが届いていたなんて、夢にも思わず…。

🌟今回の学び✍️

これは別に“ぼったくり”ではありません。

完全に私のミスです🤣

わからないことは、ちゃんと聞く！！

海外では本当にこれ大事！！！

でも正直、

「ミネラルウォーターって言ってよ〜！！！😂」

「スティルウォーターって、そりゃないよ…」

とも思いました（笑）

ちなみに “Still Water” は、

「炭酸なしのお水」という意味。

つまり、

Sparkling Water ＝ 炭酸水

Still Water ＝ ミネラルウォーター（炭酸なし）

ということなんですね。

もし無料のお水が欲しい場合は、

“Tap water, please.”

または

“Just tap water, please.”

これでOKです✨

イギリスでは、多くのレストランで水道水を無料で出してくれます😊

ということで今回は、

ロンドンのレストランで起きた

「お水に1000円払っていた事件」でした🤣

The “Still Water” Trap!? The Expensive Lesson I Learned About Water in London 😂💸

During my trip to the UK, I learned another important lesson…

How to order water at restaurants!!!!!

You know that question servers often ask in restaurants overseas:

“Sparkling or still?”

Do you know what that really means? 😂

In my Japanese mindset, I thought they were simply asking:

“Would you like sparkling water or regular water?”

So without thinking twice, I confidently said:

“Still water, please.”

…And that’s where the tragedy began 🤣

I Had No Idea “Still Water” Meant Expensive Bottled Water

I really should have asked what it meant.

But at the time, it never even crossed my mind that it could mean paid bottled mineral water 😭

Then the server brought over…

a huge, fancy-looking bottle!!!

I remember thinking,

“Wait… not just a glass? The whole bottle!?”

But I just accepted it, drank it normally, and enjoyed my meal.

I Finally Realized It During My Last Fish & Chips Meal 🍟🐟

On the final day of my trip, I was having fish and chips alone at the restaurant inside the Sheraton Hotels and Resorts, remembering all the wonderful moments I had shared with my friends during the trip ✨

The fish and chips cost 19 pounds.

Which, honestly, already felt expensive 😂

That’s around 3,000–4,000 yen in Japanese money.

Still, I told myself,

“Well… it’s London.”

But then the bill arrived.

And the total was over 26 pounds.

I thought,

“Wait… what!?”

“Even with a service charge, this feels too high…”

So I politely asked the staff:

“I’m not complaining — I’d just like to understand the breakdown of the bill.”

And then they explained everything.

The Culprit Was… “Still Water” 😂

Yes.

That “Still Water” I had ordered?

It wasn’t just “regular water.”

It was bottled mineral water 🤣

And the price?

£4.50.

Almost 1,000 yen for water 😇

I only realized it when I got the bill（笑）

Looking Back, There Was a Hint…

While I was eating, I overheard the British couple sitting next to me say:

“Just tap water, please.”

At that moment, I briefly thought,

“Huh… I never said tap water.”

Of course, I already knew that “tap water” means regular drinking water from the faucet.

And I also knew that the UK has strict water quality standards, so tap water is perfectly safe to drink.

In fact, I had already been drinking tap water throughout the trip.

But at the time, I only vaguely wondered,

“So… what exactly was still water?”

I never imagined that the bottle sitting on my table was a nearly 1,000-yen mineral water 😂

What I Learned From This Experience ✍️

This wasn’t a scam or a rip-off.

It was completely my mistake 🤣

When you don’t understand something overseas, ask questions — even if it feels embarrassing!

That’s such an important lesson.

Still…

Part of me wanted them to just SAY “bottled mineral water” 😂

For anyone wondering:

Sparkling water = carbonated water

Still water = non-carbonated bottled water

That’s what they mean.

A Helpful Tip for Restaurants in the UK 🇬🇧

If you want free water at a restaurant, just say:

“Tap water, please.”

or

“Just tap water, please.”

That’s all you need 😊

Many restaurants in the UK will happily provide tap water for free.

Somebody Should Have Told Me Earlier 😂

So yes…

That was the story of how I accidentally paid almost 1,000 yen for water in London 🤣
