🇬🇧 London Prices Were WAY More Expensive Than I Expected 😱☕🍰

Before going to the UK, I had heard many times that prices in Britain were much higher than in Japan.

So yes, I was mentally prepared… or at least I thought I was 😂

But on my very first day in London, reality hit me HARD. 💸

While walking around the city near Piccadilly Circus, I found the cutest little café.

Everything about it looked perfect — the exterior, the interior, the cakes displayed in the showcase… I instantly fell in love 😍

I thought,

“Okay, THIS is where I’ll have my first tea break in London!”

I was so excited that I didn’t really check the prices carefully.

I ordered:

☕ A honey latte

🍰 A small tiramisu

Even in expensive cafés in Japan, I’d normally expect coffee and cake to cost maybe around ¥2,000.

So I casually assumed it would be something like £10–12 at most.

Then came the bill.

💳 £19.

I honestly froze for a second 😂

At the exchange rate at the time, £1 was over ¥200.

So my debit card was charged about…

💸 ¥4,400 (around $30 USD) 😇

For ONE coffee and ONE tiny tiramisu.

I nearly fainted 🤣

And unfortunately, there was another surprise…

The edge of the tiramisu plate was dirty.

Not slightly dirty — the kind of obvious stain that makes you think,

“Surely someone noticed this before serving it… right?” 😅

The coffee itself was actually pretty good, but that moment definitely ruined the experience a little.

The café was still adorable, and honestly, I’m glad I went because it became a memorable “London experience.” ✨

But after that day, I decided:

☕ “One London café experience is enough for me.” 😂

I’m not really the type of person who goes café-hopping regularly anyway, so I can laugh about it now.

It was definitely an experience!

Later, I told my British friends from Yorkshire about what happened, and even THEY were shocked 😳

They kept teasing me for the rest of my trip.

When we went out for dinner, they would say things like:

“This meal is cheaper than your café!” 😏

“Don’t worry — this isn’t ‘London café pricing’!” 😏

That expensive café basically became the running joke of the holiday 😂

So if you’re planning a trip to London, here’s my advice:

⚠️ ALWAYS check the prices before ordering ⚠️

No matter how cute the café looks 🤣

London… you truly scared my wallet 🇬🇧💸
